Compound Residual

Just wanna know whats the point of it? If you use it its supposed to build up right? Keyword "Compound" Why is it if you use it then preform another move such as attack, barrier, heal or any other kind of move it cancels it out? Meaning I could use it one turn and if I attack the turn afterwards it goes away. Only way it stays in effect is if 1. You move away and get banned/warned for battle-holding or 2. You sit there and wait a turn which is not worth it if you compare the damage it does when your opponent hits 3k on average and the compound residual does 200.
