INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the EXODUS version of WoB RPG.

My introduction is (so far) nothing grandiose nor spectacular. It is merely me putting together some structure and organization (at my own expense) for the sake of establishing healthy RPing conditions for those who are still interested in writing.

There is no guarantee that the Administration understands, nor acknowledges the importance, or legitimately need for RP in an RPG (outside of a little Shoutbox), so I am going to begin compiling information here, and if the new board does not incorporate an RP Board, I will take steps to provide one instead.

RULES

I don't like a lot of unnecessary filler and micromanagement when it comes to Rules for my RPs, so I will pretty much keep it at the basic "Common Sense for RPers" level:
_________________________________________________________________
(Borrowing from http://www.grey-company.org/Circle/rpelf/etiquette.html )
_________________________________________________________________

Role-playing can be both fun and frustrating. These are some general rules of thumb that help cut down the frustration.

  • This really shouldn’t need saying, but it seems like one of the more common problems...stay In Character (IC) at all times. Do not drop Out Of Character (OOC) unless you are in a private conversation out of sight from others (ICQ would be best, but if that isn’t an option use an empty room). If you absolutely must say something OOC in the presence of people who are IC, then enclose the OOC comment in parenthesis.

  • Never use OOC information IC in any way. The best example I can give is...just because you can see someone’s name in their Roster, or Profile (etc), your character wouldn’t know that character’s name unless someone has told you in-game.

  • Never assume someone will react in a certain way just because you think they should. Always give others the chance to react in their own way, and don’t get upset if the reaction isn’t what you expected.

  • Any action you perform on someone else’s character, no matter what the action might be, should be phrased as an attempt. By making an attempt instead of just doing it outright, you give the character’s player the chance to consent to the action or avoid it if it’s something they’d rather not have happen to their character.

  • Be considerate of the role-playing mood of others. If you come into a situation where other characters are already engaged in some RP, don’t just leap in with a radically different mood unless you get permission (Either IC or OOC, depending on the situation and whether you have any way to contact them OOC). As an example...say there is a couple sitting at a table discussing a recently deceased character and you jump in acting like a court jester and spill their drinks in their laps while telling bad jokes. You aren’t going to make friends like this if your actions offend the players behind the characters.

  • Don’t try to be the center of attention all the time. Be polite and share attention with other characters. You aren’t the only one there to have fun, give everyone their turn in the spotlight.

  • Give others time to react to you. One of the strangest things I’ve noticed in graphical online RPG’s is impatience. People will walk up, say something, wait about 0.0001 seconds and run off. The person they talked to would barely have had enough time to read what they said, let alone respond to it. This also happens in conversations. People will say something, wait a very short amount of time, then keep going as if they think the person they were talking to didn’t hear them or isn’t going to respond. In most cases, the other person was going to respond but simply wasn’t as fast as expected, and loses the chance because the conversation has moved on without them. There’s no need to hurry so much, just relax and enjoy the interaction.

  • Avoid god-like abilities for your characters. Rping isn’t about who can make up the best super powers for their characters, it’s about the personalities of the characters. Any character that is ridiculously powerful or has a perfect personality is going to be fairly boring to RP with and will end up being mostly ignored by others.

  • It is generally considered rude to just up and attack someone out of the blue. If you and your target are not part of some planned combat event, get OOC consent from the player before you attack their character (This can be done IC if you make your meaning clear enough and you can't contact the other players OOC). If there’s no good way to get this permission, at least give them plenty of IC warning that you might attack, and if they seem to approve IC, then go ahead. If they don’t seem willing to fight, or you can’t tell one way or another, it would be best not to attack them to avoid OOC troubles.

  • Never include someone else’s character in a written story that didn’t actually happen exactly as you wrote it without letting that character’s player proofread and approve the story before you post it.

LORE AND INFORMATION

Now, as far as my RPs are concerned, Anything in the Wikia [HERE], with few exceptions, is the Lore of my RPs. Here are a few basics that I am "suuperrrr!"</Franky> anal about:

  • Quincy are born, not made. Kubo is vague on why, but I like to borrow a bit from Masashi Kishimoto (creator of Naruto), and just say that the way their bodies handle Reishi has become (through evolution, generation by generation, brought on by intermarrying) ingrained in their very DNA. Kubo says Quincy cannot be Hollowfied, but I am flexible on this part, so long as nobody expects to be turned into a Hollow, and still be shooting Reishi Bows around (perhaps as a Zanpakuto at Vasto Lorde).

  • Hollows are not naturally born, they are corrupted souls whose Chain of Destiny has been consumed, devouring their hearts and corrupting them. They are not made of meat/bone/muscle tissue/etc persé, but they are composed of Spirit Particles ("Reishi"), so they can still be sustenance for beings who consume Reishi. Their only means of procreation is to devour/corrupt a Plus/Soul, thereby inflicting it's 'condition' upon the victim. So, in short: Hollows have no dangly-bits, although I am willing to make an exception for Vasto Lordes & Espada (Tier Halibel, am I right guys? :p).

  • Ichigo Kurosaki is an anomaly, and is the only Human with Quincy/Shinigami/Hollow powers, due to the unique effed-upedness that was his Origin Story. Beyond him, Humans with Hollow powers are "Fullbringers", Shinigami with Hollow powers are "Vaizard"/"Visored", and Humans with Shinigami Powers would be "Substitute Shinigamis". For the sake of creative freedom, I'm cool with the once-in-a-blue-moon Shinigami/Human Hybrid, or even Shinigami (or Hollow) who have underwent an incomplete version of Shinigamification/Hollowfication, who are mutant hybrids of the two, but I'm usually very much a stickler for Canon Lore, in this regard (Custom Races will be a thing, in the future of my RPs). Every now and again, on a Medieval Fantasy game, I would see a Demon/Vampire/Elf/Dragon Hybrid with beautiful features (and whose bloodline could be traced back to Satan/Dracula/Legolas/Smaug/whatever), and while I like to encourage Creative Freedom, let's not get silly with it. I may be uncomfortable with it, but that does not necessarily mean I will refuse to interact with those characters; they may just find themselves with a small social circle IC.

  • Canons will naturally be a tier stronger than their OC counterparts. So, basically, if a Canon "Ikkaku" had a 'Power Tier' of 6, an OC with an identical makeup and background would be about a tier less powerful than him. That does not mean there won't be some hella powerful OCs in play, we're just trying to keep things where they make sense.

  • None of the Canons decided to have 500 children, so I shouldn't see a bunch of "Kurosaki", "Inoue", "Ishida", "Abarai", "Kuchiki" progeny, and while I generally don't like to see this at all, I make allowances for a couple of Cousins, or Grandchildren (for couples that occurred in the Canon, etc).

  • Our story is AU, so some deviations from the series will occur. If you play a Canon Character (especially one who sees a lot of front-line battle), you must be prepared to lose your character if they're killed as part of Plot; if this occurs, the Player is generally compensated by being allowed a new Canon (or OC) of roughly equivalent power/influence, although they're free to just make a character from scratch instead.
